Biography
Zesty, high energy, sexy, stylish - no, it's not the latest trendy
nightclub, it's actress/writer/producer Sonia Lozada. Ms. Lozada is
a diversely creative, witty Latina. She has been described by casting
directors as "a cross between Mae West and Rita Moreno".
Sonia was born in Chicago, IL, the daughter of hard-working Puerto
Rican parents. They were strong people, who drilled into her head: never
lose your integrity, stay committed to your dreams, and always have
a sense of humor about it. Sonia was an entertainer from a very early
age-dancing, singing, and telling funny stories. When she could fool
her mom by a particularly good show of emotion, she knew she could succeed
as an actress.
Sonia moved to Los Angeles, where she got her headshots and started
hustling. Since then, Sonia has appeared as an actress on films including
Hollywood Homicide and television shows including NYPD Blue, ER, 7th
Heaven, Moesha, The George Lopez Show, and General Hospital. Sonia can
be funny or serious, and completely obliterates the showbiz stereotype
of a Spanish maid.
Sonia's love of music is evident. Throughout the eighties, she gained
access to interview and photograph many bands, including Ozomatli, Echo
& the Bunnymen, The Clash, and John Lydon of the Sex Pistols. Sonia
published a popular fanzine "LOZT" distributed in New York,
Los Angeles, Chicago, San Francisco, and Seattle. Sonia graduated from
UCLA with a Bachelor of Arts in Ethnomusicology. In the mid-nineties,
she published an ethnomusicology magazine called "Cielo".
Between acting gigs, Sonia has an ongoing love affair with her sewing
machine. She has contributed to fashion shows, costuming for feature
films, design houses, and her own house as well.
Currently, Sonia continues to pursue acting roles, while she is looking
to produce a feature film she co-authored, "Coffee and Milk",
a comedy about contemporary Latin females and their pursuit of an ideal
man.
